Alabama Blues Project
Objective: Design an advertising campaign for a nonprofit organization. Work should include advertisements for print, web, and environment, along with a brochure.
The Alabama Blues Project, based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, focuses on the preservation of blues music as a traditional and contemporary art form through interactive programs that educate and entertain. The programs include blues workshops, camps for youth, promoting Alabama Blues musicians, and organizing music festivals and performances. It is also involved in raising awareness of the role blues music has played in the development of popular American music, with a special focus on Alabama's contribution to that history.
The campaign was built around the phrase, "Blues built our past,. Let it shape our future." With this is mind, the state of Alabama is segmented in wonky, misshapen shapes, inspired by mid-century Blue Note album covers. Using Clarendon, Univers, and News Gothic, the typography was also pulled from that era.
